Balmain Courthouse and Post Office

This is a picture of the imposing Balmain court house and post office complete with clock tower and dome. Built in 1888 it’s imposing design was typical of court house designs of the time where the power and authority of the justice system was conveyed through the design of it’s buildings.

Designed by the Colonial Architect James Barnet and costing a sum of £15,470 this landmark on Darling Street is still in use today as a local court. While there are two court rooms in the building, the smaller room on the first floor is no longer in use.
