Springwood Train Derailment

This is a photo of a train derailment from 1923 at Springwood in the Blue Mountains just west of Sydney.

The accident happened in May that year when a 26 trucks carrying cement and coal ran off the track along with the engine.

It’s a horrific scene with some of the trucks catching fire and overturning. Luckily no one was killed however three men were hurt including the guard (his name was Lloyd) who sustained cuts and bruises to his head, the driver (named Mortimer) suffered burnt arms and shock, and the fireman only named P. Young who suffered cuts and bruising to his head and arms as well as shock.
